Lancing was the nuts this afternoon. Everything as expected. Waves were in the 6 foot range. Solid lines opening up down the line for a hundred metres. It was cross offshore up to 20-30 degrees at one stage. So there was a wind shadow at times when wobbling over the first couple of waves, but you soon got clean wind and it was fully stacked on the 5.5m. On the wave was always powered, flying on some downwind screamers. Riding was really good (IMHO), slight dimples on the wave made a chattering noise as you fanged it round the bottom, a bit like speed course clatter. On the good ones, bottom to top turns were smooth sweeps, winding round the peaking lip, a few cheater airs, and charging on to the next steep section. Not a series of interconnected chop rides, but a powered down wind speed run on a single swell line. Sweet. Sunny. Solo.
